First meeting 20th October, 2004

Incorporated 25/5/2005 –

MAP Mooroolbark is made up of a small team of community minded people, looking for ways to provide a service to Mooroolbark. For 4 years we met monthly. In recent years we meet for an AGM, preferring to deal with matters needing attention by email.

Mapping a town:-

Providing this service to the community is important, although somewhat intangible. We believed developing a town website would be a very helpful vehicle for helping everyone to feel a valuable part of our community. We’ve tried to provide a website that is a focal point for community groups (churches, service clubs, sporting clubs), businesses (to have their details listed), but to also provide information about such things as: Blood bank visits, or children immunisations, or community activities, eg Celebrate Mooroolbark, Community Carols by Candlelight, Tree Planting, School functions, Steam Train dates, etc.

MAP started with the desire to MAP the town, ie have all community groups & businesses listed with their up to date contact details. The intention was to also collect anecdotal information from these groups to help in the future planning processes of the community. This aspect proved more difficult than we thought to obtain, but along the way we learned that being an ear to these groups and businesses was of greater importance than the collection of data. The processes have proven to be just as valuable as any outcomes.

We have received grants from the Bendigo Bank, the Mayor, Yarra Ranges Shire & Living Today in Mooroolbark, thus enabling us to employ a website designer and data entry person. We currently have a volunteer who continues to both enter and update community and business listings, load up-coming events, and stories on past events. Take a look at www.mooroolbark.org.au to see if you are there, are you details correct??? Let us know!!

Over the years our incorporation has been a useful tool, enabling us to auspice smaller non incorporated groups to apply for local shire grants. Such groups as – Ripple of Kindness, Belly Dancers and Celebrate Mooroolbark.
